Maxwell's "Pretty Wings" must've have been made in dedication to my infamous "quickie naps." This video is so damn simple, but beautiful in what it has. Man I can't even speak, just look for yourself. Take me higher!!!

I think people are just fascinated with naps on a whole. This video is by Oren Lavie called "Her Morning Elegance" takes a different stance, using stop motion techonology.

I blame Starbucks for the worlds fascination with sleep, since now it has become a rarerity. Oh wells, that is why they reported a 70% decrease in sales in their last fiscal year. Take back your sleep people. Take it back NOW!!

Also being featured in the same space is Nakeya B., "One Woman, Many Men"

A collection of eight black and white portraits of black men as seen through the eyes of a black woman. This specific perspective is one that has been underrepresented since photography's invention. The images explore the notion of trust and how the factors of race and gender influence them. "One Woman, Many Men" also serves as a platform to deconstruct the "White male" exclusivity associated with photography historically.

Seating is VERY limited and priority will be given to those who RSVP and then on a first come, first seat basis.

As you know...or probably don't know, your boy RIPMC'izzle has been out in London connecting the dots. And yes, the image is looking a lot clearer now. I am declaring a full on TAKEOVER. Yes. Mark your Calendar because the Writers Block Movement will be taking over UK for a week.
My agenda in going to London was to shop for venues, and to broaden my network/meet people.

Mission. Accomplished.

I must say I've met a lot of new and very cool artistic individuals, and also, I had the opportunity to develop an even better relationship with those that I met on my first Exodus to the UK. Twice Ive had people in the street tell me either "Are you a poet? Yeah, I saw you perform a few months back" and "Writers Block! Writers Block! I thought you went back to NY?!"

And no I ain't talkin' 'bout chicken. It seems that something has managed to slip past my radar. Whilst I was re-organizing my life a new movement has seemed to happen. It is called Jerking. And as pausatial as that name may sound that is the name of the current pre-pubescent dance movement.

It is like a mixture of hyphy, chicken noodle soup, and some other sheeiit. Peep the video.

The song "Your A Jerk" has mesmerized the innocent blank minds of teenagers all over the US, and has them submitting whit-less YouTube videos of themselves doing the jerk. You can spend hours just looking through them. Trust me, I have.....n't.

These group of young handsome brothas' that were formally trained jazz students at the illustrious Morehouse College. While the men are fresh out of college, they have thrived for six years on the music scene, and have had their music appear in the 2005 major motion picture “Hustle & Flow,” on Carlos Santana’s “All That I Am,” and worked with with platinum recording artists David Banner, Wyclef Jean, Big Boi (“Kryptonite”), Mary J. Blige (“Just Fine”) and newcomers Janelle Monae, Algebra, PJ Morton, and Fonzworth Bentley.

Unfortunately, I was not able to take part in SXSW, this year in Austin, TX, but sho' nuff a lot was a buzzin' round them parts. And part of that buzz was this documentary Say My Name that was featured there. It is a film about "women turning adversity into art," which I think is the greatest source of inspiration.

Jaslene actually managed to get her prominent jaw faced self into a magazine, and not in those sad SouthPole ads either. She is featured in the "La Casa Azul En Brooklyn" spread of the 3rd issue of the livingproof magazine. It prides itself on being less of a magazine, thereby ending up on more coffee tables, and in less trash cans.
If they keep publishing issues with Frida Kahlo inspired photographs of ANTM's of webisodes past, they may be onto something.

Today was an unofficial self-declared snow day for some and for others, like me, life continued as usual. Well, if I in fact did have the day off I would have spent it eating genetically altered suicide generation green grapes in my flannel pajamas while watching the entire past two seasons of Gossip Girl. Then I would have proceeded to dance arrhythmically to The Smiths. But since we don't live in a perfect world I had to wake up at the BUTT crack of dawn and get to work.

Speaking of BUTT, what if I told you that there was an UGG boot that I actually approved for males to wear. Yes, UGGs for dudes. Well, it is true and funnily enough the name of the UGG boot is UGG BUTTE. Isn't that funny. At a whooping $224 at Zappos.com, it is not really recession proof, but it sure is snow day proof.

Paul Schene, I refuse to call him an officer, has not only injured this 15-year-old female minor after she stole her parents' car, but has also shot and killed a mentally impaired man. Also Schene has been caught driving under the influence, while also taking prescription medications.

Now he simply gets a slap on the wrist with a paid suspension until the court rules. It is a shame when the persons responsible for making you feel safe, make you feel otherwise.

Whilst cyber-ly flipping through the electronic pages of the New York Times Style Mag, I happened to fancy my gaze on this splediferously amazing article about this dude, Ted Noten. He is like the revolutionary of the hardcore accessory realm right now.
According to NYTimes, "His pieces — a brooch cast from chewed gum, shattered porcelain cups hanging from a gold chain — are not your standard charm bracelet. A few years ago, when Noten, a former psychiatric nurse, was invited to create a piece with pearls for an exhibition, he dressed a dead mouse in pearls and encased it in an acrylic pendant."

Wow that sounds like some original hot 'ish to be rockin.
Honestly, his work is PHENOM and def puts to shame the attempt of Semi-Precious Weapons hardcore jewelery line. Its called Fetty of Brooklyn, although I do love the pieces.

But with prices like $15 and a hot band like Semi Precious Weapons, I think both them and Ted deserve this "handy-man" video by The Knife. It is oh so fitting!

Recently I have been getting on my intellectual and doing some leisure reading from my minuscule library. I acquired this book while taking an Ethics class at Howard University back in '05, but in light of the recent debauchery of the NY Post and their cartoons........I have decided to re-read this information packed goodness.

This book, rightly named, Black Genius: African American Solutions to African American Problems, is definitely a good read. It has excerpts from several writers, with contributers like Spike Lee, Angela Davis, and Stanley Crouch, it definitely is worth the investment of your time.

Poster Boy has been described as many things like an "anti-consumerist guerrilla artist" or "New York's Banksy," but unfortunately now he will be described as a felon, and some series of numbers that will adorn his orange jumpsuit. Once again the powers that be have made the ultimate poster boy out of Poster Boy.

It has been reported by the Guardian magazine that on the 31st of January 2009 "The NYPD announced they had arrested a 27-year-old from Bushwick, Brooklyn and promptly placed him on Rikers Island." Later the Poser Boy was released on bail due the collective efforts of friends. The said dude was Henry Matyjewicz, who later sent an e-mail to the New York Times stating that...

"Poster Boy was not a single individual but a "movement".

"Henry's part is to do legal artwork while propagating the ideas behind Poster Boy. That's why it was OK for him to take the fall the other night."

The email ended: "Henry Matyjewicz is innocent."

Keep your eyes open to see if any more of his work shows up. I know I will. In the meantime, and inbetween time, peep some of his previous works tho.

In other news. It has been my observation that in '08 the trend was auto-tune and swagger jacking. Now that the word "swagger" has been officially eliminated from all of our '09 vocabularies, it has been substituted by Gibberish. Not not the word gibberish literally, but honestly for shame I think that the trend in music is to create music that no one can decipher.

It all started off with the Ting Tings "Impacilla Carpisung," which honestly has about 3 real words total and the rest is a collection of sounds, with no meaning. Leaving the listener to interpret what they want. I guess Ryan Leslie took that and ran with it with his next single "Gibberish." Wsdfaweknfir, what?! I'm getting my '09 vocab on, hehe.

I still believe in miracles, unicorns, & shiny SuperBowl rings. This years SuperBowl, was nothing short of Super. If you failed to spend 4 hours of your life watching men run around in iridescent tights, while catching a leather ball, you were surely missing out.

Fitzgerald surely tried to salvage the Cardinals, but honestly Harrison, is a tyrant with "unnecessary roughness," and Holmes took it home (corny, i know).

But of course there are some who watch the SuperBowl not for the game, nor for the half-time show with Bruce (in which you know less than 80 percent of his songs), but in fact for the 60 sec interruptions. This in my opinion was one of the best commercials for this SuperBowl.

It is relatable. It is commical. It involves hurting small furry animals. It has a not-so-subliminal message. What more could you ask for???

For instance, Doug Savage, states that he retains his sanity by drawing chickens on sticky notes. Yes folks, something you probably do at your office bored at work, or at school when not listening to the teacher, he has successfully made a living out of.

The Studio Museum In Harlem

“The Studio Museum in Harlem is the nexus for black artists locally, nationally, and internationally, and for work that has been inspired by black culture. It is a site for the dynamic exchange of ideas about art and society.”-SMH
This Museum right around the corner from my hood, is a mecca of African American, Carribean, and African Art. It currently houses Barkley L. Hendricks: Birth of the Cool that features many of Hendricks’s lesser known, older works and his newest pieces, small plein air studies of the Jamaican landscape.
Also it houses, VideoStudio which is a new, ongoing series of video and time-based art.
Here are some more pieces that have been showcased at the Studio Museum in Harlem.

I am always a big fan of supporting our community. So be sure to hit up this wonderful gem, hidden among the scenery of Harlem's streets. The best thing is that thanks to TARGET, admission on Sunday's are FREE!! FREE! FREE!! Indeed.

Back In The Studio!

Well Red the G-Funk Hobo, is back in the studio, I honestly can't wait for his album. I don't know what he has in his hands that is so pertinent for him to do his thang thang. Hmmm... a 'lil sus' But I'll keep you posted.

The Platinum Pied Pipers also have been in the studio too, because they have released The Abundance Mixtape, in anticipation of their album Abundance that was released on Inauguration Day, Jan 20th.

Waajeed put together an official mixtape containing exclusive remixes, blends by OKP's own DJ Topspin, plus previously unreleased tracks from both Triple P & Abundance.

If you are not familiar with Triple P, or PPP, they are a Detroit-based hip hop and R&B group composed of producer Waajeed (Robert O'Bryant), and multi-instrumentalist Saadiq (Darnell Bolden). Their last/debut album Triple P album was produced by none other than Jay Dee.

Who could possibly warrant that as a decent hairstyle? Honestly, if I were 'Ye, I would have ducked behind that "Boulder Shoulder" back up singer, and prayed that nobody peeped my Alfonso Ribero reminiscent hairstyle.
Kanye is from Chicago and all, but I think he was ashamed, poor thing, because on his blog he posted this picture that magically makes light the situation, by hiding the mullet playground in the back of his head. He better thank the lucky stars that Angel from Concreteloop attempted to salvage his career. I mean he passed up the opportunity to amaze us with this other picture that Angel took...

I guess on this Martin Luther King Jr. "birthday" celebration, everyone is reclaiming their rightful place in society, and the horses are doing taking their fair share of the pie.

We have to thank for this wonderfully ironic art the person of Julian Wolenstein, who is an Australian photographer. He works with clientele as common as Burker King to those as upscale as VOGUE Australia.
I guess that mix of humor and art is demonstrated in his photography. My favorite is "Yawning is Contagious."

In the light of the festivities this weekend, as the world awaits the 20th, and the fact that I wish I was in DC right now, this Daft Punk vs. Adam Freeland "Aer OBAMA" video is pacifying me for the moment. I think it is soo fitting for this wondrous occasion.

According to Kanye's blog, it includes "Kubrick toys, Bill McMullen, and Dalek not to mention various cameos by Barack Obama." I personally love how the Kubrick toys re-enact what a real Daft Punk concert is like. So realistic, yet so futuristic. With that being said, I am more than satisfied. Enjoy!
